In the 1990’s when the military upgraded their Individual Integrated Fighting system which has a tactical load-carrying vest with the Combat Field Pack M-1990 more widely known as the CFP-90 Field Backpack.
During the Vietnam War, the load carrying vest was intended for the United States Navy Seals in order to be able to carry equipment more easily. The idea behind the tactical load-carry vest was to help the infantryman carry his equipment in a more distributed manner over his body thus giving the soldier more comfort and easier mobility. Out of this quest, the CFP-90 was developed.
The CFP-90 is constructed of an 8 ounce water repellent woodland camouflage nylon fabric that weighs 8 pound when empty.
The CFP-90 contains a main compartment for equipment and a sleeping bag compartment that can be opened up into the main compartment when a sleeping bag is not being utilized, thus creating one large equipment compartment. On the exterior the CFP-90 is equipped with 2 small cargo pockets and a channeled pocket to help carry and organize smaller equipment.
The CPF-90 military backpack also contains accessory positions consisting of webbing and loops on the exterior and throughout the pack to secure even more equipment while having easy accessibility. All content inside and out of the CF-90 is tightly secured through the utilization of compression straps that hold all equipment tightly in place thus having minimal movement while the soldier is in motion.
