The ALICE All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment PACK. The ALICE system retains the concept of separate fighting and existence loads that was refined in the mid-1950s during the development of the M-1956 Load-Carrying Equipment [LCE]. The most important point in the fighting and existence loads concept is that an infantry rifleman should carry only the items necessary to complete the immediate mission at hand.
Military Backpacks continue to change and evolve. We grew up with the Alice Pack that is a variation on an external frame pack and actually evolved form the Bergen rucksacks of WW2. We still have the Alice packs but military backpacks now range from variations of the CFP 90's that were introduced in the 90's as well as the many variations of Assault Packs that are also offered by Squadsupply.
